I’ve been here multiple times and I have to say that I’ve always enjoyed coming back here each time.
The food is really good, and meats are really tender and enjoyable. There is also a wide variety of choices for people who choose from which is enjoyable with a larger group of people. They also offer jasmine tea for free when sat down at the table, which is quite nice as well.
Staff are quite nice as well, I can’t say I’ve had a bad experience with any person who has worked there.
Tables and bathrooms are clean as well.
Reasonable price for quality food. Roast duck noodle is our favourite. It's a shame there's no vegetable leaves in the soup anymore, you get a decent amount of meat only.
I've been coming to Wong Kei's for over 33 years, and can safely say that it is a family favourite!
The food is always delicious, with our favourites being Brisket Beef Noodle Soup, Won Ton Noodle Soup, Char Siu BBQ Pork, Roast Belly of Pork, BBQ Spare Ribs, Sesame Prawn Toast, Beef Ho Fun (dry), and Crispy Noodles with Mixed Seafood. In fact, you absolutely can't go wrong with any BBQ meat with either rice or in a noodle soup.
I've always found the staff friendly, helpful, and efficient. As a Londoner, I'm always in a rush. I know that with Won Kei's, I can walk in on my own, be seated downstairs, order a bowl of noodle soup, and have it in front of me all within 5 minutes. I can eat and be out in under 30 minutes and be on my way. Perfect for if you're on a work lunch break. That is definitely fast food. However, if you're there with a group, they'll seat you upstairs where you can take your time, order many dishes & drinks, have good conversation, and spend a couple of hours eating & drinking.
Whether it's a quick bite whist out shopping in the West End, a quick lunch break, a post theatre meal, or a birthday celebration with family, we always head to Wong Kei's when in the area. We even use them for take-away.
I always pick up a couple of portions of Char Siu BBQ Pork (uncut) to take-away keep in the freezer for emergency dinners as it's my boys favourite meal. I will also sometimes travel from Holloway Road to Leicester Square and back again, just to pick up a take-away order of noodle soup when for me and my husband when we're craving it for our lunch at work. I can get there and back, and eat it, all in under an hour.
If you're looking for good, reasonably priced Chinese food when near Chinatown, or the West End in general, I would highly recommend heading to Wong Kei's. Just remember, it's Cash only!
I was honestly shocked the moment I stepped inside and experienced the service. The attitude of the staff was unbelievably poor — something I hadn’t anticipated until I looked back at the reviews. This was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in Chinatown.
If you’re curious to test your patience, this place will certainly challenge it. From the moment I arrived to the moment I paid, it was a display of rudeness and apathy. I even took photos of two of the staff members to document the behavior.
What surprised me most was the attitude of the elderly lady at the counter during payment. Her demeanor made it crystal clear where the toxic service culture stems from — it’s a top-down issue. The poor attitude trickles from the older staff to the younger ones, setting a tone of disrespect and indifference across the entire team.
Avoid this place unless you’re prepared to have your patience tested to the limit.
Great food, huge portions and very reasonably priced for the location. My partner is from HK and loves how authentic the dining experience there is. Knocked down a star as they gave me a glass that had a crack in it so my water spilled over our table. The glass also had a distinct smell of bleach so I wasn’t going to drink from it.
